One of the first upholstery projects that we turned our attention to. We took the inspiration for the design of this chair from the renowned 20s designer Sonya Delauney, we wanted to create an impact piece that very much made a statement in its surroundings.
We started off by stripping the rocker completely back down to its wooden frame and metal rocking mechanism. The finish on a lot of the wooden furniture of the period was a dark stain which we felt did not complement the natural beauty of the wood used. We used a natural colourless oil to bring out the grain and tones of the wooden arms. The metal rocking mechanism was in very good condition and only required cleaning with wire wool, oiling and general refurbishment.
