Beautiful Rose Jumper

Worn with pride, this beautiful, statement jumper can be as formal or as casual as required. It looks equally beautiful with evening wear or above your favourite jeans.

The jumper is fully fashioned - the term used to describe a knitted garment where the various panels  are accurately formed to shape and size as each piece is knitted on the needles. This means there are no raw edges.

The panels here once sewn together form a neat, shorter shape garment with short, raglan sleeves and a boatneck.

One by one rib trims form the cuff and welt (hem) and the narrowest of delicate garter stitch trims the neckline.

Before sewing the panels together, the front is hand embroidered using 100% merino thread that has been hand-dyed to multi shades of soft pink. In this case, 4,500 stitches are needed to embroider the rose fully

Due to the nature of hand dying, this image is a one-off and cannot be repeated exactly.

Cover stitch or Swiss daringness is used to create the image of a full-blown summer rose. Having quickly sketched the rose from life, the image is transferred to “stitch-related” graph paper.

This is graph paper that has been adjusted to the shape of a knitted stitch and as a knitted stitch is wider than it is tall, the graph paper is rectangular rather than square.

Each rectangle represents one stitch. In this case, over stitches are needed to be able to embroider the rose fully.

Once perfected, this graphed out image is transferred meticulously by hand embroidery onto the garment panel and takes one of the team here at Yarn Mill, quite some time.

Material

A luxury blend of the finest kid mohair and silk fibres form the base of this tapestry embellished knit.

ABOUT YARN MILL AND YOUR HANDMADE GARMENT

Yarn Mill is the result of a collaboration between three friends Russell, Paul and Melanie who share a love of all things knitted - Garments, Accessories, Soft Furnishings etc. Each is passionate about quality, authenticity, tradition and pushing the boundaries of yarn, stitch development, texture, embellishment and shape. Together they are Yarn Mill.

The name derives from Russell’s ancestral links to the West Yorkshire woollen mills and Paul’s studio base at his family home, a  renovated Devon watermill that dates back to the Doomsday Book.

Each of the team is motivated by the desire to create the highest quality, original pieces possible with the minimum impact on the environment. This is not a response to any current fashion trend - rather a recognition of the need for something more personal, individual and lasting.

There is no compromise on the quality of the natural raw materials used - merino wool, alpaca, silk, and linen. These combined with traditional manufacturing techniques result in timeless, original and ultimately desirable pieces.
