Tradition, tradition and more tradition
Hand knitting in the round is one of the earliest forms of garment knitting. This is the method by which a garment is constructed on four or more separate, double-pointed needles all used together or, in more recent times, a double-ended, circular needle. This method allows for a garment to be knitted almost in one piece and without many of the usual seams (side seams and underarm seams, collar attachments etc).

For many hand knitters, the biggest plus of circular knitting is the resulting lack of any sewing up and joining of panel pieces. It is possible to use any yarn and any size needle. The cozy, winter-weight sweater shown here features a deep yoke constructed from traditional Arran style cables, bobbles and stitch texture. The main body is single jersey and has two pockets with bobble trim. The rib hem is stepped being slightly longer at the back and features side splits.

The colouring here is a melange of subtly differing grey tones.
Certainly one for the cooler months and one that could almost make us look forward to winter.

Material

The 100% natural fibre yarn is a luxury blend of Alpaca and wool.

ABOUT YARN MILL AND YOUR HANDMADE GARMENT

Yarn Mill is the result of a collaboration between three friends Russell, Paul and Melanie who share a love of all things knitted - Garments, Accessories, Soft Furnishings etc. Each is passionate about quality, authenticity, tradition and pushing the boundaries of yarn, stitch development, texture, embellishment and shape. Together they are Yarn Mill.

The name derives from Russell’s ancestral links to the West Yorkshire woollen mills and Paul’s studio base at his family home, a  renovated Devon watermill that dates back to the Doomsday Book.

Each of the team is motivated by the desire to create the highest quality, original pieces possible with the minimum impact on the environment. This is not a response to any current fashion trend - rather a recognition of the need for something more personal, individual and lasting.

There is no compromise on the quality of the natural raw materials used - merino wool, alpaca, silk, and linen. These combined with traditional manufacturing techniques result in timeless, original and ultimately desirable pieces.
